About me

About me

Hi I’m Kathryn, let me tell you a little about me…..

For me, pets are an essential part of life. They are always happy to see you, always there to give you a wet kiss, and love you unconditionally. These are the moments I love to capture between you and your pet.
I have been a professional photographer for over 20 years and in that time I have worked in a variety of photographic fields in both private and public sectors. My experience extends to the delivery of photographic training internationally as well as throughout Australia assisting organisations to train new and current staff to improve their photographic knowledge and skills.

For thirteen years, I worked as a forensic photographer for government organisations, but it was time to make a positive change to my career.  My pets are a strong part of my family life, so to combine my photographic skills with my love of animals and working with them, was an obvious choice.

So why choose me as your pet photographer?

I am highly qualified

I obtained my Bachelor of Applied Science (Photography) in 2003 from RMIT in Melbourne. Since then I have been actively engaged in the photographic community through professional memberships and associations. This has then enabled me to deliver specialist photographic seminars at conferences both within Australia and internationally. This in addition to the provision of training at a professional level (as well as to individual friends and family), has allowed me to use my experience to develop this business.

I am very experienced

There are no situations I haven’t photographed! No lighting is too tricky, no pet is too difficult. My educational background and my working experiences have provided me with the knowledge to tackle any photographic situation.
When it comes to your pets, my experience with animals is essential. I have owned and trained pets for many years, I understand how to read your pets behaviour and body language. I take the time to win them over to ensure they are comfortable with me.

Attention to detail is key

I was trained in the days before digital (I know that makes me sound old). The important feature of photographic film is that you had to have an in-depth understanding of the photographic process so that you got the shot right in the camera each time. Photo editing was done in the darkroom, not the computer so there was no room for error. With the ease of digital and computer based editing software, for many those pure photographic skills have been lost, but for me it is still an essential part of the imaging process. If you get it right in the camera at the time of the shoot, you don’t need too much time post production editing. Having the depth of understanding of the relationship between the light the subject and the camera that I do, enables me to manipulate all those elements as I shoot to give you a beautiful natural result that will look great in your home.

Just like with film there is always a little editing to do, but this should be minimal to achieve a stunning result. One of the most important editing skills for my work is removing leads. This can take a bit of time, but the result is well worth it. I also remove unwanted slobber and mess from the photos, unless of course that slobber is part of the beauty of the image.

I care….

As cheesy as that sounds, I genuinely care about the animals I photograph. Having pets myself, I understand just how important it is to be able to cherish them forever. Their lives are short, but like all family, we never forget them. I have the skills to provide you with memories to cherish forever. We never know what tomorrow may bring, so why not make those precious memories today?
